Ruidoso High School

Our mission is to enable all individuals to discover and fulfill their highest potential. Ruidoso High School provides outstanding academic and extracurricular programs for students in grades nine through twelve. Students have opportunities in a variety of academic and vocational subjects and are challenged to maximize their talents through remedial, general, honors, and Advanced Placement courses. Ruidoso High School has one of the most beautiful natural settings and one of the finest physical plants of any high school in the region.
Fine Arts, physical training, journalism, foreign language, internships, and many other elective courses allow students to choose areas of interest while completing their basic course requirements. Currently Advanced Placement classes are offered in English, Math, Science, and History. New courses are being developed based upon student interests and ever changing educational expectations.
Ruidoso High School is a Career Pathways School. A Career Path philosophy and program is implemented in grades K-12. Career awareness and exploration activities in grades K-8 establish the foundation for development of an Individual Career Plan (ICP) for each high school student. Through career activities, assessments and inventories, and advisement from school and home, students are guided to identify personal strengths, passions, and possible career goals. The ICP is an individualized written road map to assist student decision making in areas of course selection, work experiences, internships, extracurricular activities, community experiences, volunteering, and other related activities in order to empower students to properly prepare and pursue their career goals and passions.
The career paths are areas of study that are flexible enough to meet student needs as they acquire new knowledge and experiences. Courses, internships, work experiences, extracurricular activities, and community partnerships will be further developed to support the six career paths and the development of an ICP by each student.
Career implies more than just a job; it includes education, work, and lifestyle. Achieving a successful career requires years of planning, studying, training, and hard work. To assist students in planning wisely, the district has developed six broad career paths reflecting community input and career opportunities unique to our area. Within each path, numerous career pathways or opportunities have been identified.

Technology is an integral part of students' coursework throughout the curriculum. Each classroom is equipped with computers with Internet access, TV monitors, closed circuit TV, cable TV, and satellite down linking capability. Computer Labs are accessible to students during and after school hours.
A partnership with the Ruidoso Instruction Center of Eastern New Mexico University enables students to earn college credits while attending high school through a concurrent enrollment program. Other online course opportunities are available. Ruidoso High School has developed several community partnerships to enhance our education programs.
Co-curricular and extracurricular activities provide additional opportunities for students. Many students are involved in student government, activities, and athletic programs that are competitive statewide.
Parent communication is critical. SchoolMessenger, Powerschool, TV channel 15, and other systems are utilized to enhance regular communication.
A full array of student support services are readily available including student health, guidance and counseling, tutoring, special education, bilingual education, section 504, and advisory program.
Student scores on national standardized assessments indicate that Ruidoso High School prepares students with the appropriate educational skills to become productive and competitive individuals after high school graduation. Recent graduating classes have received over one million dollars in college scholarships, and more than eighty percent of graduates enter post-secondary education.
